Violence

Untreated trauma and the temperature of a city

Neighborhoods with high exposure to violence and low access to care show clustering of aggression that is better explained by untreated traumatic stress than by 'culture' slogans.

What we conclude

Violence is not only a policing problem. Where traumatic stress is dense and care is thin, aggression recycles through households and streets. Programs that treat only the last punch miss the loop.

What we will not claim

We do not claim that therapy alone reduces homicide, or that any ethnic group is more 'violent' by nature.
